PM presses good governance to new CS

Gilani directs the newly appointed chief bureaucrat of Sindh to strive to improve governance in the province.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has directed the newly appointed chief bureaucrat of Sindh to strive to improve governance in the province, especially in Karachi, the country’s commercial capital.

At a meeting with new Sindh Chief Secretary Kamran Lashari here on Thursday, Gilani said his government wishes to see all official agencies working properly all over the country.

“The welfare of the people at large is our top priority, therefore, an improvement of governance is important for the democratic government,” said a handout, quoting Gilani. Lashari was made CS last week.

Gilani emphasised that the administrative machinery has to be proactive and responsive.

The administrations of all the provinces should work to mitigate the sufferings of the flood affectees as well as build capacity for the task of reconstruction and rehabilitation operation.

Commenting on the important position of Sindh and especially Pakistan’s financial hub Karachi, the prime minister said efforts to improve governance will address public problems. Good governance will also help attract more investment both from within and outside the country.
