KARACHI: Tension engulfed North Karachi after the killing of an activist of Awami National Party (ANP) who was targeted at Shahnawaz Bhutto Colony, said the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police.

SHO Sajid Javed said the victim, 22-year-old Paras Khan, was sitting at his general store in the colony near the W22 bus stop, when unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire at him and escaped. Paras was shot twice. The police took him to JPMC where he died.

The victim was a resident of the same area. There was panic as news of his death spread, and armed men fired shots in the air and forced shops to close. Police and rangers gathered on the spot.

The police said that the victim was unmarried and hailed from Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa.

ANP spokesman Qadir Khan condemned the incident and demanded the government take action to stop the killing of party workers and supporters.

In the same precinct, three other people were injured after unidentified men shot at them.
