FAISALABAD: “My supporters and I would not sit idle. We will rid the country of corrupt politicians,” Tehreek-i-Minhaj-ul-Quran Chairman Tahirul Qadri said on Sunday.

Addressing a gathering of 20,000 people at Dhobi Ghaat here on Sunday, Qadri said that he was working only to bring about a visible change in the lives of the people by ensuring a transparent electoral process in consonance with the constitution.

Reiterating his allegation that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was constituted in an unconstitutional way, Qadri said that sabotaging the election process was not his agenda.

Instead, he added, his entire efforts were meant for ensuring free, fair and transparent elections in Pakistan.

He said a coterie of politicians had been sucking the masses’ blood for several decades and by deceiving them by providing them livelihood and welfare.

Once voted into power, he said, these politicians pursued their personal interests only.

He accused the chief minister of launching mega projects for personal gains.

He also criticised President Asif Ali Zardari for the federal government policies.

“It is very unfortunate to have the head of the state who is known to be corrupt”.

I would have more respect for Tahirul Qadri if he first gets out from behind his bullet proof glass enclosures and apologizes for working with the past Benazir government and Musharraf dictatorship he now calls corrupt. How can this man talk about corrupt governments when he was intimately involved with them? Then he runs off to Canada to ask for asylum saying he is persecuted in Pakistan. Not only does he have to swear under oath that he is in danger for his life but then he swears allegiance to the British Queen in order to happily live off the money of tax paying Canadian citizens who pay for his khayrat welfare benefits! He is on record for saying he only became a Canadian in order to have visa free travel and take advantage of free health benefits because he is sick - in the process he angered Canadian citizens who want to hear that someone wants to live in Canada because he loves Canadian society. All Tahirul Qadri has done is shown that he can be corrupt to both Canada and Pakistan at the same time as a dual national. As a dual national myself, I am ashamed of people like him!
