A first information report (FIR) had been registered against the diplomat, identified as Luperisi Perez, at the Secretariat Police Station but he had been released, said an official requesting anonymity.
The US embassy in a statement on Friday expressed “deepest regret for the terrible accident.” We will cooperate fully with the Pakistani authorities on the investigation and are working through our local insurance company to address financial questions or concerns, it stated.
Muzamil Hussain Shah and Shoaib Raza, employees of Capital Development Authority (CDA), were going home from work when a speeding US embassy car hit the bike on Thursday.
The pillion rider died on the spot while Raza was shifted to Polyclinic hospital. He was later shifted to CDA Hospital after doctors at Polyclinic reportedly refused to provide treatment to him.
The allegation was denied by a spokesperson of the hospital. “Dr Sharif Astori said proper treatment was given to the injured. “We gave four bottles of blood and bandaged him, before he was shifted,” he said.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Raza said the speeding car hit them from behind. “Its headlights were off and the driver did not even honk,” he said, adding that his colleague died on the spot.
“After the accident some passersby along with the American took us to the hospital,” he said.
