ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Youaf Raza Gilani withdrew the appointment of state-run Oil and Gas Development Corporation's (OGDC) Chairman and asked the Petroleum Ministry to appoint a new chairman, on Thursday.

Sources say Adnan Khwaja was a beneficiary of the National Reconciliation Ordinance and ineligible to serve at a public post.

While ordering the withdrawal of the notification, the prime minister directed the Ministry to adopt a transparent and merit-based system for appointment.

Adnan Khawaja was appointed chairman by the Ministry of Petroleum on the 7th of September 2010.
