“SC has expressed its full confidence in ECP. The commission was constituted in accordance with the constitutional provisions,” Ebrahim said while taking to reporters.
He said the SC and ECP were moving on same track and wanted that elections be held in time.
Meanwhile main opposition party PML-N also appreciated the apex court’s rejection of Dr Qadri’s plea against ECP terming it as victory of democracy.
PML-N leader Senator Tariq Azim said in a statement that the SC’s decision is a major boost for those political parties which want continuity of democracy through free and fair polls under ECP.
“Those calling for the reconstitution of ECP want to derail democracy and pose hurdles to smooth transition of democratic process,” the senator said.
He said that Dr Qadri should relinquish his dual nationality and contest elections if he really wants to bring about change in the country.
ECP for all out efforts
Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Ishtiaq Ahmed on Wednesday said that all-out efforts would be made for holding fair, free and transparent elections in the country.
Ahmed urged political parties, stakeholders, civil society and the media to help ensure free and transparent elections in the country.
Talking to Pakistan Television, he said that all available resources would be utilised to ensure peace and tranquility near the polling stations. He added that all necessary help would be sought from the law enforcement agencies, Frontier Corps and Army for ensuring security of voters at polling stations.
Some 80,000 polling stations will be established in the country for the upcoming general elections.
Ahmed said that all the political parties and stakeholders should evolve a comprehensive strategy to ensure full participation of women in the elections.
Replying to a question, he said the presiding officers were being given powers of Magistrate First Class so that all the affairs during the electoral process could be dealt with in a proper manner.
"It is the responsibility of voters to elect honest representatives for the progress, prosperity and development of the country."
Replying to another question he said display of arms, derogatory remarks, character assassination or personal criticism on other parties would be prohibited during the election campaign. Further, public meetings or big gatherings during the election campaign would be allowed only at specific places.

@Usman Khan: Its shame - Pakistani dirty polical system is winning. Next 65 years Pakistan will stay like this. Both family business parties PML(N) and PPP posted 4 provincial ECP members who will help both parties to win Election.
Fakhrudin G Ibrahim is good and honest person but have only one vote and 4 votes provincial votes will give him problems if he wants to decide correctly. This effect on decision making process.
@Umer: Laughable. This was in 1981 when Zia's dictatorship was progressing towards its prime. You need to get your facts straight.
A day of shame for Tahir ul Qadri, Imran Khan & all other establishment cronies..
Qadri has never attacked SC physically neither was part of Asghar Khan case. I wonder how he is any less loyal to Pakistan than those who did the above two.
@Patriot:
That is why he did not take oath under Zia's PCO that he was inclined towards PPP. The reasons were political on the face of it.
@PakPower:
Those were old days and democratic forces were much stronger in those days and Fakhru bhai went with the flow.
The anarchist himself is on welfare and is on the mission to make people jobless.
@Umer, Fakhru bhai was also Attorney General during Bhutto's times, and in fact was his legal adviser throughout 1970s, and was appointed as Governor of Sindh by Bhutto's daughter. Bottom line is, he is an upright man of integrity, no controversies around him, and didnt support Zia's martial law. So I have full faith in him, that is not acting on behalf of any party.
Good Fakhru Bhai- Please also ask your subordinates to pay attention to billions of rupees being squandered by incumbents to buy out votes. When election commission doesn't pay attention to these excesses, people start questioning the credibility of the process.
@Umer: What about him refusing to take oath under Zia's PCO?
He is an honest, upright man who is as good a CEC as Pakistan is going to get.
@Azmat: Sir you said it exactly right. Current CEC is as good as possible in Pakistan. However, some losers who have no hope in the election process and results would never agree on anybody. Compared to past CEC Justice Ibrahim is a Titan. He never took oath under PCO and always fought for the constitution. Regards, M
Fakhru Bhai, PCO Judges and N League all speaking the same language. Fakru Bahi used to be lawyer for Nawaz Sharif. Hmmm..
Present ECP is constitutional but those who don't want fair transition through ballot box are spreading rumors
Salute to the supreme court for saving the country from this crook Qadri whose main goal was to derail the election and save the present regime from Hugh defeat in the coming elections the way PPP played the game by opposing him yet supporting him with the entire government machinery and with their allies was a classic example of cunningness only if they had spent their efforts and mind on solving the country’s problems we will be in much better place I think our arch enemy would not be able to damage Pakistan what the present regime did in five years just because they resorted to loot the already looted country. May Allah SWT forgive our sins and give us honest leadership. AMEEN
By saying Dr Qadri a dual national and raising suspicions on his loyalty to Pakistan, have we proved that present ECP is a constitutional?
