ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday arrested CDA Land and Rehabilitation Deputy Director Rafaqat Ali from his house in G-9 on charges of tampering with land records.

An FIA official said the deputy director, Administration Officer Sagheer Ali, his assistant Zafir Ahmad and two other officials whose names could not determined had tampered with plot files and forged signatures to cover their misdeeds.

“When the documents were sent to the estate department, officials there were suspicious and ordered an inquiry into it,” he said.

He said the CDA initially stopped the FIA from investigating by claiming the Aabpara police were already investigating and created other hurdles during the investigation.

“However, the police transferred the case to the FIA, and the first arrest was made on Friday,” he said.

The official said that the accused confessed to the crime and over 39 files have been recovered from him so far.
