The minister was suffering from cancer and was seeking treatment at a hospital in Houston, US at the time of his death.
Dr Shah, an orthopedic, had also resigned from the Sindh assembly in December on account possessing dual nationality. He was currently serving as an adviser to the chief minister on sports.
Dr Shah had last year successfully organised a World XI versus Pakistan XI cricket match in Karachi, providing a return of international cricketers (if not cricket teams) to the country at a time when no foreign team was willing to undertake a tour.
Shah also had announced plans of a hockey match along the same lines.
The minister had been elected from PS 103 on a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) ticket.
Dr Shah was also a recipient of President's Pride of Performance‚ Tamgha-e-Basalat among other awards.

I wish ET introduce a "dislike" option so we can show people like "Umer" how much they are hated when they put a bias comment!!
Shame on you Umer. With people like you, Pakistan does deserve to rot like its being.
No doubt he has a lot of contributions for Pakistan. May Allah rest his soul in peace and give him rewards for what he has done for his country. BUT whatever he did in common wealth games 2010 is some thing we cant forget, being a Pakistani i consider that incident shameful and embarrasing.
He has long list of Achievements, A Gem of a Person, He has done wonders as a surgeon then dedicated his life for sports and Medicine. You will be missed.
RIP Dr. Mohammad Ali Shah. we just have lost a competent man. No one can replace you..
A very kind and helpful person who went beyond the call of professional duty to do good. And I am personally indebted to him. Our paths crossed after 35 years here in London last November and I thanked him again. He had forgotten all about it and just smiled. So maybe God wanted me to tell him that he was going to live on in the hearts of countless people he helped. May his soul rest in peace. Amen
I think once some one passes away we should only recall his/her good deeds and pray for their soul regardless. Allah SWT Knows best.
Sad state of people and their mind. A person did many good things for the people and sports, but you would like to talk about one incident. You do deserve people like AZ and NS. Inalillah wa inna ilaeh e rajeeon., someone who actually did something for this nation and its people.
@Umer: Yep.. He is the one who was desperate to carry Pakistan flag on Commonwealth Games in India. Btw he did some good in sports for Pakistan too. But that act was shameful too
Inalillah wa inna ilaeh e rajeeon. An Honourable Personality. Another MQM worker / leader who dearly served the public without ever seeking a reward. Also, he tried his level best to bring cricket back to Pakistan, but PCB never followed up with it.
I pray for him yes Umer. He is the one who snatched the flag from the player and thus disgraced Pakistan on the international level. His being dead or alive should not keep us away from speaking the truth. I think his only positive quality was being an extremely good orthopaedic surgeon.
RIP Dr. Shah. You were a multifaceted personality.
@Umer: How cruel and abashedly insensitive!
@ Umer: Yeah as far as I can recall, but bro I think now we can leave that behind and pray that his soul rests in peace. RIP
He will be remembered every time i will cross by his efforts built in Stadium
Isn't he the one who snatched the flag from the player in one of those international tournaments?
RIP.. you were a great man
Its a big loss to Pakistan! May ALLAH grant him jannah. Ameen
We have lost a great man and an exceptional individual. He was a great sportsman and a world class Doctor. We as a nation has suffered an invaluable loss. MQM should be proud of itself that it had a person of this caliber in their ranks.
Inalillah wa inna ilaeh e rajeeon. May his soul rest in peace. He was a great asset in orthopaedics, and of course sports.
Champion of healthcare and sports in Pakistan. RIP
