Months of wrangling ended as Chaudhry Rashid Ahmad took charge as the chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Monday. Ahmad was serving as federal secretary for information at the ministry of information and broadcasting prior to this.
According to Pemra spokesperson Fakhar Mughal, the new chairman took charge on Monday after the Establishment Division issued the notice of his appointment.
Under the existing laws, the chairman is appointed to a four-year term. The move comes after a ruling by the apex court barring the acting Pemra chairman Dr Abdul Jabbar from holding office.
Ahmad, in his 30 year long career in the information industry, has previously served as director press at the ministry of information and broadcasting, information service academy and press information department.
