The Council’s job is to consider whether any laws conflict with Islam. Ashrafi told The Express Tribune that he would support legislation which promotes interfaith harmony and goes against terrorism. He said that he would try to promote an environment in which non-Muslims felt like equal citizens of Pakistan.

" If your talking about Saudi Arabia’s Islam then that’s not Islam its salafism/wahabhism….and we clearly don’t want that in Pakistan."
How can you say that the Saudi Islam is not Islam? Saudi Islam strictly follows what is written in the Quran and the Hadiths. How can that not be Islam? On the other hand, the Islam of the Indian subcontinent is heavily influenced by Sufi practices and thoughts. In turn, sufism has borrowed heavily from vedic Hinduism, especially the mystical and philosophical part.
Could it be that you and most South Asian Muslims did not really know what real Islam is?
Perfect. Just Perfect. Now all we need is for Malik Ishaq to be made a minister in punjab courtesy of Rana Sanaullah and Shahbaz Sharif.
"He said that he would try to promote an environment in which non-Muslims felt like equal citizens of Pakistan."
For non-Muslims to be equal citizen, while a good environment is nice, what is really needed is to make fundamental changes in Pakistan's constitution that currently condemns non-Muslims to third class dhimmi citizen. Unfortunately, such a change in constitution is impossible in a state unless Islam is totally divorced from the constitution and the affairs of the state. In the meantime, all this nice talk about interfaith harmony and environment is just lip-service.

lolsss
Malik Ishaq is a leader in his own right but not as profound a scholar of Islam as Allama Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi.
@SK5 well said!
I'm sorry sir but do you actually know anything about Islam?. If your talking about Saudi Arabia's Islam then that's not Islam its salafism/wahabhism....and we clearly don't want that in Pakistan.
I won't be surprised if Zardari appoints Malik Ishaq as minister of interfaith harmony !
How pathetic ! he is the supporter of banned organizations, islam means peace and they are making its pieces . .
Allama Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi is a good Muslim. In all matters he must stand only by the truth of Islam instead of attempting to please every group with unIslamic sops.
Well done... A tlast PPP did something positive. It is high time to appoint Malik Ishaq as minister of religious affairs and interfaith harmony. These two great personalities with history of leading non-violent movements in the country can guarantee peace and harmony in Pakistan and Muslim Ummah in other countries. Please Zardari please do it. If PPP government does not do it, I am sure future generations will not forgive them for ignoring talent and intellect of Malik Ishaq.
