Pulses: Research in progress to improve yield, quality
The production of pulses, masoor and mash, is 50% lower than expected yield, says official.

Ministry of National Food Security was facilitating a network of 18 institutes and stations all over the country to conduct research to improve yield and quality of different pulses.
At one time, Pakistan was self-sufficient in production of pulse (moong), however, the gram production varies year to year and the country hit deficits in production in two years and sufficient for the other three years, an official of the ministry said on Wednesday.
Whereas, he said, the production of pulses, masoor and mash, is 50% lower than expected yield, adding that the continuous research activities at these centres will help increase production and meet the growing demand.
There were five horticulture research institutes and stations across the country finding ways to boost yield and quality of all major fruit and vegetable crops.
