Rs100,000 fine to be imposed on casting fake vote: ECP bill

Election commission approves final draft of bill during crucial meeting.

ISLAMABAD: A fine of Rs100,000 and/or imprisonment of three to five years will be imposed on anyone who is found casting a fake vote in the upcoming general elections, stated a new bill drafted by the Election Commission of Pakistan on corrupt practices.

According to Express News, a crucial meeting was held in Islamabad on Wednesday, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim. The final draft of the bill was approved during the meeting.

The bill defined what would fall under the category of corrupt and illegal practices during the elections, which includes casting a fake vote or forcing someone else to cast a certain vote.

The election commission has taken several steps to ensure free and fair elections in the country, including a ban on political advertisements in the media on public exchequer.
