Public transport: Over 11,000 vehicles fined in 2012

The secretary informed that the RTA imposed fines amounting to Rs3,097,200 on rules violations during last year.

The Rawalpindi Regional Transport Authority (RTA) issued fines to 11,322 vehicles in Rawalpindi district in 2012, while 3,834 vehicles were impounded at different police stations due to overcharging, overloading and use of substandard CNG cylinders.


Talking to APP, RTA Secretary Ajmal Hussain Bukhari said public service vehicles without route permits or in poor condition were also impounded and fined. Some smoke-emitting public transport vehicles plying different routes were also impounded. He informed that 1,064 vehicles were fined in December alone, while 368 vehicles with substandard CNG cylinders were also issued fines in the same month.

The secretary informed that the RTA imposed fines amounting to Rs3,097,200 on rules violations during last year. A large number of vehicles were also fined for not displaying their fare tables, he added.
