KARACHI: Umar Gul registered a hattrick and a six-wicket haul to bring HBL back into reckoning against SNGPL on day three of the President’s Trophy’s five-day final at the National Stadium.

HBL had initially conceded a 146-run lead, but Gul gave his side hope as he rattled SNGPL who ended the proceeding with 177 for nine in 56 overs. Umar Akmal starred with a 76-run innings as he hit a six and 12 fours in his 121-ball stay, while Azhar Ali made 31 as SNGPL stretched their lead to 323 runs. Fahad Masood supported Gul by claiming two scalps as Ehsan Adil and Abdur Rehman continued their struggle for wickets.

Earlier, HBL were all out for 137 in 56.4 overs as Ahmed Shahzad fought solely with 79 runs from 215 balls. Mohammad Hafeez claimed four wickets and Asad Ali and Samiullah took two wickets apiece.

Gul’s effort with the ball was in stark contrast to the first-innings where he failed to put his 100% in.

Gul, who currently remains Pakistan’s most experienced fast-bowler, could have changed the scenario of the match had he put up a fight initially.
