Shahrukh had reportedly escaped to Dubai after allegedly killing Shahzeb Khan in Karachi.
Shahzeb was murdered on December 25, 2012 over a petty dispute in Karachi’s Defence area allegedly by Shahrukh.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took suo motu notice of the killing and ordered police to arrest the suspects.
Police managed to apprehend Siraj Talpur, his brother Sajjad Talpur and their cook. However, they failed to arrest Shahrukh.
In a bid to force Shahrukh to return to Pakistan, or turn himself in, police had taken his father, Sikander Jatoim into custody.
Police, who had sent a delegation to Dubai, had claimed that Shahrukh had been arrested in the emirates and would be repatriated as soon as legal formalities are fulfilled.

@Adnan:
Dear Adnan bhai. We're hoping against hope that the justice will have the last laugh in Pakistan. Here are the two examples of Supreme Court's credibility. Ajmal Pahari, a renowned serial killer, who has killed about 100 people was bailed out couple of days ago and the reason they gave was, they did not find enough evidences and witnesses against him. Another case of white corolla if you can recall, what happened to that culprit who raped 45 sisters and killed one and made a confession in front of one and all?? In my eyes that case was worst than this. Where is he now, dear knows. What more do you expect from this so called Supreme Court/High Court. Honestly, if I am given a choice, I'd hang all the judges in the first place as they are the biggest hurdle between the people and the justice. I apologize if I have hurt anyone's feelings but this is the reality.
The case will be settled soon. emphasized textLike a block buster movie, "The end" may not be what everyones desires.
@shanzeh: It is funny that feudals did not wait to take revenge without being detected. They invited getting caught like this.
No shahzaib was not driving about the feudals and the shahzaib lived in same appartment of country club. So they knew each other and their relatives should have respected by guards not teased.
Its Shahzeb mistake that he was driving around at night with his sister. The poor guard of Talpurs thought she was call girl. That's why he teased her. Next Sharukh did suicidal act while seeing the single name number plate and armed guard he should have avoid brawl and gone on driving.
Greater mistake of Sharukh was why he went out again in the car at night. After fight with Talpurs he should have stayed home safety.
Its greater mistake of Shahzeb and its
@Dr. AJ: " I hope you know the kind’a place jail is, for the influential. LCD Tv + Air conditioner + Laptop + Cell phone + things I can’t write here. I’m not a big fan of capital punishment don’t get me wrong. But sometime you are left with no choice. Death is the only fearing lesson for such minds once found guilty."
I'm truly shocked by your last sentence. Regardless of how a jail looks from the inside, capital punishment cannot be justified. Death or violence is not a solution, even in extreme cases. The psychological behavior of these people provides us an insight on how to learn and further improve society from within.
The outdated laws in Pakistan's judicial system has, even today, the ability to indict many innocent people, especially women, that might end up in prisons to be hanged thereafter. How would you feel if you were hanged, even though you might be innocent? As history has shown, there exists a possibility for evidence to emerge in later stages that might prove your innocence. And if you hang an innocent person: than a natural contradiction arises: The state, i.e, the people, are all guilty of murder, does that mean everyone from the state apparatus, to the judges have to be hanged as they were responsible for indicting a innocent person? Does that mean all people that support capital punishment have to be hanged. I'm not saying that Jatoi is innocent, but I'm implying that in the foreseeable future the situation might arise in which a innocent person might be hanged.
As far as jails are concerned, it is up to us, the people of Pakistan, to influence policy to reform the jail system. That does not mean create a barbaric environment for the inmates. And that can be accomplished with the same pressure that was applied on the Chief Justice to issue an arrest warrant for Jatoi. Dr.Aj, ask yourself the question, what would the Feudal Jatoi do, if he had the chance to hang someone that is guilty?
Now, and I assume, that you are in contrast a more educated person than Jatoi, the answer and the underlying message should, after asking this question, reveal to you a perspective that is much needed.
Justice has come to mean the ability to afford an expensive lawyer who can get you off the hook, May sound a tad cynical. Everyday we see people losing the fight as they cannot afford the likes of Aitezaz Ahsan Asma Jahangir etc.
Its absolutely pivotal for the nation to unite against injustice whether its about the hazras or shazeib khan. Comparing between the two is completely useless and unproductive!!
@ Zen - I hope you know the kind'a place jail is, for the influential. LCD Tv + Air conditioner + Laptop + Cell phone + things I can't write here. I'm not a big fan of capital punishment don't get me wrong. But sometime you are left with no choice. Death is the only fearing lesson for such minds once found guilty.
Test for the SSP now... I hope he doesn't take "Blood Money". These Waderas must be hanged, Once a Killer, Always a Killer.
@Zen: You are right. Most of us don't believe in our own constitution and due process. Like a hound we want blood and quickly even in this day and age. It is only in Pakistan that many people want to change the govt by unconstitutional means at will. In this illegal act they are willing to support anybody no matter who they are.
@Believe
Completely agree with your mature thoughts.
First of all, and let me make it clear, that I am in no way supporting anyone in this case, other than the family that is immensely suffering from this tragedy. I hope the the killers are brought to the courts and are held accountable.
Now, it seems, unfortunately, that all the people commenting here don't have the slightest idea of what Justice means. Justice means "due process" and until and unless we don't go through the entire judicial process which includes receiving fair trial - there is no need to jump to solutions such as "hanging or beating these people to death". We cannot use emotional pressure as a leeway to force judges to think irrationally about the case. Details will emerge and I'm sure we're going to see the killers behind bars. None of us were present at the time of Shazeb's death and therefore I believe we should await till the trials begin, examine and analyze the evidence presented and thereafter reach a conclusion that is just.
Furthermore, and what is really disappointing, is the fact that most people here still believe in torturing and capital punishment.
@Jibran:
even Shahzeb has not gotten justice (Yet) hopefully he and Hazaras and all the rest of oppressed get justice soon.
@Raza Khan:
I guess we are nobody to decide about diyat. Its choice of the deceased's family.
Court should hear the case on daily basis, give the verdict and the culprit should be given a sentence that should set an example to the so called elite of our Country who are physically, mentally and in may other ways abusing and torturing the Common man.
One possibility is if Shahzeb's family is threatened to point where they're lives are in danger and then these goons force them to accept the blood money. This may be a perfect way to get this murderer go scot free.
I am glad Mr.Shahrukh was brave enough to surrender himself (hopefully because he realised the atrocious crime he committed and running away was not the solution).
Yes, a strict sentence should be given but HANGING AND DEATH should not/can not be the solution. We need to make the citizens of Pakistan realise the essence of life. If he gets a death penalty I personally do not think this will stop or put an end to these crimes by the powerful- they'll just get other people to do it for them (hired killers, who's going to catch them?).
Personally I feel community service, therapy and charity work can mentally fix these people- not negating imprisonment.
People who commit such crimes have got their morals wrong- THATS WHAT WE NEED TO FIX.
People we need to change our mindset because that's where we as a nation lack.
@True picture: Rs I Billion may be rejected. But $ 1 Billion.. Hummmmm
@Ashraf Ali: Perhaps you don't understand that the reason the alleged killer turned himself in was because he realizes that he has nowhere to run. With so much attention and activity going on, it was only a matter of time before the fellow was apprehended. It is very unlikely the father or family will accept "Diyat" because they have said on TV that they will ensure that justice is carried out. It is clear that justice in Pakistan can be achieved if there is the social will to see things through as has occurred so far.
Good going.........lets hope justice prevails.
Breakout the cheque book
Good for murdered Shahzeb Khan's case. I hope justice will be served to this shaheed. Can the Chief Justice takes notice of shia genocide the same way? or he loves to ignore the issues on macro level and pick only the cases that help his image/matsres?
M.A.Siddiqui: Lets hope they don't. Manytimes people are forced to take the blood money or more family members would get killed later and no one would be able to prove anything ever; the details of threats never get to the surface.
I think it will be way to shameful for everyone including shahzebs family to accept blood money after the hype this case has received.
Justice will not be served until Shahruk Jatoi and Talpur are hanged publically. We need to see these people hanging otherwise no one would believe that justice was served. Similarly, the likes of TTP, LeJ and LeT need to be brought to justice and pay for the thousands killed in Bomb blasts.
No blood money. bring this man to justice!!
@Adnan: They [Hazaras] waited for nearly five days to get justice.
Sorry Sir! You are wrong. They didn't get justice. Police and judiciary has yet to wake up from their slumber, to arrest and punish the killers of 1000 Hazaras. Shahzeb got justice only because he was the son on an influential cop.
I don't think that family of Shahzeb Khan will accept any blood money from the father of killer Shahruk Jatoi.
Finally, justice will be served in Pakistan. Start of a new era where law and justice is supreme.
Extreme circumstances require extreme measures, in bitter cold of Quetta a community stood against a dishonest, corrupt and inefficient regime. They even sacrificed the Islamic law that orders that the dead bodies should be buried as quickly as possible. They waited for nearly five days to get justice. Every law is made for human benefit and I believe that Allah will not be displeased by the act of this brave Hazara Community. We all know for the fact that if that protest wouldn’t have happened there would have been status quo, our senseless and corrupt government would have closed the case by saying it is an another act of terrorism
Shahzeb case is also an extraordinary case, I am myself a witness of the abuse these kids to influential people do to common people and have seen a person nearly killed because his car came in way of a Sardar’s bodyguards parking their car. Shahzeb got media attention; otherwise there are thousand of instances that go unnoticed. Please do not let this case go to the snake and ladders of our justice system. We require full bench of Supreme Court should hear the case on daily basis, give the verdict and the culprit should be given a sentence that should set an example to the so called elite of our Country who are physically, mentally and in may other ways abusing and torturing the Common man.
Good. Now bring him to justice b/c no one should be above the law.
Bring him back, Quick trial. And death by hanging.
I am sure he will say he is innocent and Shahzeb was murdered by Ghosts and Goblins ..
That is because his passport was cancelled by Pakistan
PS: Rehman Malik you are not that bad by the way
No diyat! We want him hanged.
I am really thankful for all the people who ran this campaign for justice. I wont give up until he serves a strict sentence!
There is a high chance of him getting away with this crime if Shazeb's family agree to take blood money (Diya), if this happens to be the case then we, the common public, will be the loser's & the rich, powerful, feudals etc will be the winners. I hope Shazeb's family dont give up on this case even if they are offered 1 billion rupees. We need to set a precednt from this case so that this does not happen with anyone else.
Great news. Now lets us see these killers hanged within a week's time. It shouldn't be another case of blood money crap.
Thankyou Sharukh sahib, for surrendering on your own, otherwise our law enforcement agencies would never have reached you. Now give away money (diyat) to Shahzeb's family and get free. The story would be closed, like in Raymond Davis case.
