Authorities detained a dozen officials of Skardu prison on Saturday following the escape of a death-row prisoner.
Naveed Hussain, a resident of Gilgit, escaped from Skardu jail late Friday night. He was sentenced to death for killing an anti-terrorism court judge, Jamshed Khan and two others in 2005-6 in Gilgit city, about 300 kilometres from Skardu.
“A manhunt is ongoing, though the officials responsible have been detained and are being questioned,” a spokesperson for Gilgit–Baltistan chief minister told The Express Tribune.
Police sealed off all exit routes of the city and mounted a manhunt. “A special police team is conducting raids in different neighbourhoods,” said an official.
Meanwhile, Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ) condemned the jailbreak at a press conference. “We want all those who helped Hussain escape to be taken to task,” said ASWJ General Secretary Muhamad Nawaz.

for your kind information same jail broken in Gilgit and Astore district where were so-called govt and peace lovers ?? these SSP terrorists escaped why not such report published on it why ASWJ invested 8 core to release Shakirullah and others if the want peace and justice these are killers that is it?
My favourite part in the news report is ASWJ's representative's statement. First of all there was no need to put this statement in the news report. Secondly, it clearly shows the reporter's and editor's insensitivity to the Shia-Sunni conflict in the G-B region. It clearly shows that ASWJ has a problem with the escaped prisoner and are certainly afraid of him.
this shows how much govt is powerful in dealing things, the third incident of jail related escapes before this one happened from Astore where two alleged killers of terrorists organizations, latter the unfortunate escape incident of flee those high profile killers who were nominated in Zia-uddin Rizvi murder case the highly sensitive case for GB peace, these people manged an escape in a dramatic way now people of the view establishment was involved in escape, months passed nothing done yet to rearrest those killers who manged flee with doubtful support from establishment, i was really surprised to saw such change of people mind set so quick regarding the involvement of establishment people of the view we have doubts about the assassination of Rizvi by establishment now the planned flee incident made it clear the doubt and fair about establishment hand in Murder of Ziaduddin Rizvi was certain, they were saying why govt is planning to kill us we need more work to be independent shared people their views the recent case from skardu prison can be counter action in response to the previous two incident in which more than 5 high profile killers manged safe escape . if establishment is backing any particular group will it be good for the future?
