Lower courts shut down after employee shot dead

Sectarian killing claims the life of lower courts staff member Bashir Khan, according to police reports.

Work in the lower courts was suspended on Thursday after a staff member, Bashir Khan, was killed in what police officials say could be another case of sectarian killing in Karachi.

Khan, who was a stenographer in the district and sessions judge Central’s court, was shot dead by two unidentified men near the Lucky Star intersection, police officials explained. He was on his way to the city courts.  He was shot four times, said DSP Zameer Abbasi. “We have already investigated different aspects. So far, it seems he was killed because of his sect.”

According to Abbasi, Khan was in his 50s and lived in Jet Lines. He was associated with a mosque but he was a peace-loving man, Abbasi explained. “His association only went for Tableegi rounds,” he added.
