An international conference will be held to recognise the sacrifices made by Pakistani writers for democracy, said Akhtar Saleemi of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) in a press statement.

The conference, titled “International Writers Conference”, scheduled in Islamabad on January 10 and 11 will be attended by writers, thinkers and intellectuals, including 25 literary figures from around the world.

The role of literature in democratic values, and literature of Pakistan languages and democracy are two of the topics that the conference attendees will discuss.

A cultural show, as well as an evening mushaira, will also be held. Eminent writers such as Intizar Hussain, Bano Qudsia, Mustansar Hussain Tarar and others will also present their articles.

PAL Chairman said that the goal of this conference is to bring together writers of different backgrounds and languages.

He added that the conference is an important milestone and would not only help to promote democratic values in the country but it would also dispel any negative global images of Pakistan as an undemocratic country.
