Encroachments: Huts on government land demolished

Protestors demanded that the government provide them a place to live.

SARGODHA: District government on Monday demolished several huts on government land. District officials carried out an anti-encroachment operation at the Mela Mandi Ground early in the morning. It was followed by a protest demonstration by the residents who said that they had not been informed about the operation. Some of them said that they had been living on the land for more than 60 years and could not be thrown out like this. They demanded that the government provide them a place to live. A district official said that the residents had earlier been told to vacate the land. He said the operation had been carried out after several reminders.
