LAHORE:

Inspector General Haji Habibur Rehman has directed the Hafizabad district police to take action against publishers for printing and circulation of hate literature, his public relation officer Nabeela Ghazanfar Awan said on Monday.

The order followed an intelligence report of December 13 identifying some publishers in the region who were printing and circulating hate literature.

The report said that hate literature was being circulation in Hafizabad district. This included compact discs, periodicals and magazine, including the Nawa-i-Afghan Jehad and Hateen.

The report said that the literature was replete with “objectionable” articles.

The report had named Sada-i-Islam Publishers in Urdu Bazaar, Lahore, and Tayyaba Publishers and Islamic and School Books in Rawalpinidi’s Urdu Bazaar.

It said that extremist organisations received this material in bulk from the named publishers and distributed it through their workers.

The report identified the following as distributers: Former Sipa-i-Sahaba Pakistan general secretary (Hafizabad) Maulana Muhammad Yahya Marth; Master Saifullah of the Madarassa Binatul Islam, Mohallah Tajpur; Mirza Humayun of Makki Masjid Jalalpur Road; Hafiz Muhammad Arshad , resident of Gujranwala Road; Abdul Hameed of Madina Glass on Jalalpur Road; Ghulam Mustafa Chattha of Kot Pannah; and Maulana Saiful Islam.

This hate material is disgusting. But it must be protected as 'Freedom of Speech'. Censorship must never be allowed. People will consciously choose the right from wrong. This is the cornerstone of every civilized society. As the greats of modern civilization have said "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."
