Federation secretary blames Doda for conducting illegal elections.

KARACHI:

The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) secretary Akram Khan has stated that the federation was preparing a case against current President Doda Khan Bhutto for conducting illegal elections despite a stay from Islamabad’s session court.

Even in the face of the stay, which was sought by the Islamabad Boxing Federation’s President Aun Abbas and Secretary Shahid-ul-Haq, Doda forced elections of the PBF to be held on December 20 in Lahore. The PBF president then nominated himself as the president and Iqbal Hussain as the secretary on his own in spite of being severely criticised by officials of major units — the PAF, Army, Navy, Sindh, K-P, Balochistan and the Islamabad boxing associations.

A hearing on December 22 was set for Doda, but he failed to make an appearance.

“We’ll file a case against Doda for contempt of court as he did not make an appearance,” Akram told The Express Tribune. “I’m engaged with the lawyers to make sure that the illegal officials appointed, or those who nominated themselves, are   punished.”

There has been an ongoing tussle between Doda and the PBF secretary Akram Khan as both officials have blamed each other for the downfall of the game in Pakistan, while bringing up charges of corruption.

Meanwhile, Akram said that he would continue to work as the official PBF secretary to ensure that the corrupt officials would not be allowed to interfere.

“The Sindh branch of the National Accountability Bureau has completed its inquiry in the financial misuse of the PBF’s funds and soon enough the public will know the truth.”

According to Akram, Doda’s reign as president was illegal since the International Boxing Association had also refused to accept the bogus elections of the PBF and have decided to investigate the matter.
