Low intensity bomb: UoP teachers injured in minor blast

Blast occurred near the dry chemical laboratory of the department at around 2pm while students were attending classes.

PESHAWAR: Two Geology Department teachers at the University of Peshawar (UoP) were injured in a low intensity blast in the basement of the university on Thursday. According to an official at the UoP, the blast occurred near the dry chemical laboratory of the department at around 2pm while students were attending classes. The injured teachers, Asghar Afridi and Naveed Anjum, were taken to Khyber Teaching Hospital after the blast. An official said that the explosive was planted at the bottom of a cupboard in the laboratory. The two teachers sustained minor injuries while the windowpanes of the classrooms and laboratory were shattered. According to an official of the bomb disposal squad, 400 grammes of explosives were used. Campus police cordoned off the area while Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar visited the department. The university administration directed police not to allow anyone to enter the premises of the university without proper investigation.
