The constant wave of violence in Karachi became the subject of Monday’s meeting held at President Zardari’s Karachi residence Bilawal House. Sindh’s top leadership was in attendance.
The operation against target killers, extortionists and other criminals should be accelerated, said the president, who assured that all possible measures will be taken to provide security to citizens. He also directed the provincial government to gear up law enforcement agencies against target killers, extortionists and other criminals in the city.
A list of initiatives was decided upon to check mounting lawlessness. Proposals included 100 additional armoured vehicles and 500 bulletproof jackets for Sindh police, increased police check posts, paramilitary force deployment in Karachi’s sensitive areas, increased patrolling by forces and upgraded equipment for the Bomb Disposal Squad.
It was also agreed that computerised check posts should be set up with Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras for effective snap checking at all exit and entry points in Karachi.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Additional Chief Home Secretary Waseem Ahmed, Sindh IG Police Feyyaz Ahmed Leghari, Additional IG Karachi Iqbal Mehmood, police and other law enforcement agencies’ officials attended the meeting.
Furthermore, President Zardari directed officials that all arms licences should be computerised and the National Database and Registration Authority should help facilitate this. Pakistan is challenged by terrorism and political forces will have to play their due part, he said, adding that terrorism could only be eradicated through unity.

This is not the first time he has made such statements and certainly not the last........his credibility is zero.
Good morning, at last!
This is not the first time that the President has issued orders like this.....? he does this as a formality...just to be record...his eyes will open wide when someone important from his party etc; is targeted...very easy to pass such orders from Islamabad or from his safe home in Clifton, Karachi....but has such orders for the past 4.5 yrs made a difference, in fact more dies when he is in the city.
What?President orders action against target killers after 5 years of his rule?Where He was before?
What an idiotic statement from the head of the state. What were u guys doing last 5 years? Despicable and pathetic! Will never ever vote ppp again
Sir what about the person who distributed 300,000+ weapons ("not to be used at weddings") to a banned terrorist organization? Those weapons have resulted in 5000+ murders in Karachi including Kati Pahari I & II, Shershah Massacre, etc.
Mr Zardari's concern about Karachi violence time and again is due to forth-coming general elections and nothing more. He has not spoken a word against TTP violence, killings of hundreds of innocent people and military's inaction against them which shows the insensitivity of ruling party towards the people of Pakistan.
Mr President finally you have woken up...this has been happening for more than a year and you are well aware of who is doing this....stop fooling the nation, you are in for a big surprise come the election, you have been the worst president in our history.
