FAISALABAD:

A woman tried to burn herself on Sunday to protest against the police who she said had failed to recover her child abducted four months ago. She was taken to Allied Hospital, where doctors treating her said that some of the kerosene she had put on herself had gone into her eyes. They said she was out of danger.

The self-immolation was attempted in front of the Faisalabad Press Club. The woman was, however, stopped by a police team.

Talking to The Express Tribune after the incident, Kausar Bibi, a resident of Babar Chowk in Madina Town, alleged that her seven-year-old daughter had been abducted by her tenants. She said she had taken her daughter to the Jinnah Garden, from where her tenants, a woman and two men, had kidnapped her.

She said they had been missing since the incident. She said she had registered a case at the Civil Lines police station, but they had failed to recover her daughter.

She said she had lost all hope of her daughter’s recovery and had hence tried to kill herself.
