LAHORE:

Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) distributed ration bags among 3,000 workers and Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) academic vouchers amongst 500 workers on Christmas eve (Monday).

LWMC hosted a cake cutting ceremony at Atiq Stadium which was attended by sanitary workers, company staff, contractor’s staff, telecom company representatives, students and board members. Bishop Irfan Jamil said the prayer. Father Jamil also appreciated LWMC’s initiative and admired its management for promoting interfaith harmony on Christmas.

He said that Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) was a messenger of peace and love not only for Christian communities but for the entire mankind.

The cleric added that the Punjab government had done good work for minorities and stressed need for promoting peace and interfaith harmony among the public.

LWMC Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan distributed ration bags among workers while education vouchers were given away by MPA Khawaja Salman Rafique, who is also a member of the LWMC’s Board of Directors. The vouchers allow for free education of children in PEF’s schools.

Hassaan said the workers were the real strength of the company and they were responsible for making the dream of a clean Lahore a reality under the chief minister’s leadership and the guidance of the LWMC management.

LWMC provides uniforms and shoes to the workers annually along with a bonus salary and prizes for best performance, he added.

He further said that a plan to provide the sanitary crew with transportation services is also on the cards.

Arun Shurkullah and a choir from Foreman Christian College sang carols and students from schools of Youhanabad presented various tableaus. Taimur Rehman from the Laal band also sang.

The Sanitary workers are really Angels who quietly come and do their job when most of the people are still comfortably sleeping .The small effort to recognize their Services is a great Initiative .

Our Multi National Companies spend Millions of rupees on the publicity ,the Government of Punjab should ask these Companies to come forward and contribute in goods and services to share with these workers on the occasion of Christmas .Imagine how the beautiful roads of Lahore leading to all the shopping areas which do business worth Billions daily would look if the roads are not cleaned and even the Garbage is not collected for a single day .

Well done Chief Minister and His team ,Thank You .
