Drive-by shootings: Political, religious activists gunned down

Two more men were shot dead in the city.

KARACHI: At least four people, including political and religious activists, were shot dead across Karachi on Wednesday.

A man associated with the banned religious outfit, Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, was gunned down in Nazimabad. Asif Sami alias Dhaga, 32, his nephew, Mateen, and his father were on their way home from their hosiery shop in Gulbahar when at least two armed men on a motorcycle targeted them, police said. Dhaga died while Mateen was injured in the attack.

In Orangi Town, an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead at Nishan-e-Haider Chowk.  Alamgir aka Guddu, 32, was on the way home when two armed motorcyclists attacked him in Pakistan Bazaar. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Alamgir worked for the MQM’s Unit 119 and was a paramedic at the Qatar hospital, according to DSP Zahid Hussain.

A tailor was shot dead inside his shop within the precincts of Garden police. Thirty-two-year-old Shahid Razi was targeted by two assailants who came on a motorcycle and fired a volley of bullets at him, killing him on the spot. The body was taken to Civil hospital.

Another man, identified as Zafar Imam, was shot dead by unidentified attackers within the jurisdiction of Manghopir police station. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The Anti-Violent Crime Cell police arrested two suspected target killers, Jamil and Kalam, in a targeted operation in Orangi Town. The suspects were said to be involved in more than two cases of targeted murders. Their political affiliation was not disclosed by the police.

Another alleged target killer, Adil aka Arif, associated with a political party, was arrested from Orangi Town.
