Delayed development: Work to begin at K-IV canal next month

A recent meeting discussed the matters relating to the preparations of the groundbreaking ceremony.

KARACHI: The construction of the 124-kilometre canal for the K-IV project is expected to begin next month. President Asif Ali Zardari will perform the ground breaking of the 25-billion-rupee water supply scheme.

The Greater Karachi Water Supply Project, popularly known as “K-IV”, will supply an additional 650 million gallons of water every day to the metropolis from the Keenhjar Lake in Thatta. The KWSB had invited tenders from international firms for consultancy.

A recent meeting, chaired by Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Managing Director Misbahuddin Farid, discussed the matters relating to the preparations of the groundbreaking ceremony. The K-IV project director, Mashkoor ul Hasnain, and chief engineer Saleem Siddiqui among other officials of the water board were also present.
