KARACHI:

An alleged kidnapper was killed in a police encounter in Gulshan-e-Maymar on Sunday. The hostage was found safe.

A six-year-old boy, Usman, who lives in Sultanabad, Keamari, was abducted on Friday by a rickshaw driver while he was going to school, said Anti-Violent Crime Cell chief SSP Niaz Khosa.

The boy’s father is a businessman in Quetta. The kidnapper later called the family and demanded Rs20 million as ransom. The family, however, informed the police about the kidnapping. The Anti-Violent Crime Cell police traced the kidnapper’s hideout to Brohi Goth.

The police later raided the place but were attacked. When the police returned fire, the suspect was killed at the spot, said Khosa. The law enforcers, however, rescued the hostage who was handed over to the family.
