KARACHI:

Superstorm Sandy could not halt the presidential elections along the East Coast of the United States but the 66th annual elections of the Karachi Bar Association were postponed due to the law and order situation in the city on Saturday.

The decision came after the near-absence of public transportation, closed petrol pumps and CNG stations, and fear and panic that spread in the city on Friday evening. The district and sessions judge, South, Ahmed Saba, who was acting as the chief election commissioner, postponed the elections on the request of members of the bar association. The polling has now been scheduled for Wednesday. City courts lawyers are supposed to elect a 17-member body, comprising six office-bearers and 11 managing committee members for 2013.
