ISLAMABAD: The government on Friday decided to maintain the existing price of urea fertiliser at Rs1,659 per 50 kilogramme (kg) bag due to availability of sufficient stocks in the country. The decision was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf at the PM house to review the situation of availability of fertilisers in the country. Premier expressed satisfaction over the fact that sufficient stock of fertiliser was available in the country. The meeting was told that the stock position was far better than last year due to timely import of fertilisers as well as local production. He said that the supply of fertiliser will further improve with the finalisation of contract to import 200,000 tons of urea from Saudi Arabia which is expected by mid-January. The meeting was informed that Rs80 million was paid as subsidy on fertilisers to reduce the cost of inputs to the farmers.
