Mob: Suspect robber beaten to death

Doctors said he had died from severe blows to the head.

BAHAWALPUR: Some residents of a village in Derawar beat a suspected robber to death on Friday. Police said four men broke into the house of Rao Muhammad Nawaz. While they were collecting gold jewellery and cash, one of the family members saw them and shouted for help. They said the robbers tried to flee, but some residents of the nearby houses came inside the house. They said some of the robbers started firing in the air and fled. However, one of them was caught by the people. He was beaten up with sticks till he fainted. Someone from the crowd called the police, who rescued the robber from the people. The injured robber was taken to Rural Health Centre in Khatri Bangla, where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. He was identified as Saleem, a resident of Chak 75. Doctors said he had died from severe blows to the head. Station House Officer Rao Kaleem told The Express Tribune that a case had been registered against the robbers who fled.
