Avoiding congestion: Truck terminals to be shifted from Karachi

KARACHI:

Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Mohammad Abbas said that efforts should be made to shift truck terminals from Karachi to avoid gridlocks and ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

He said this while presiding over a meeting on Thursday, adding that a project for new truck stands and terminals must be taken into consideration immediately.

“It must be unanimously agreed upon in order to ensure its implementation in interest of the people and the city,” said Abbas.

Transport Secretary MB Kalhoro, Implementation Secretary Liaqat Randhawa and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Mohammad Hussain Syed and others were present. “The removal of unauthorised truck stands and tanker terminals are among the top priorities, besides foolproof security and monitoring mechanisms,” said Kalhoro. He added that the proposed sites for new truck stands will include the Super Highway, Indus Highway and the Northern by-pass.
