A school teacher, who was allegedly beaten up a few months ago for stopping some boys from teasing girls, has lost the use of his legs due to lack of treatment, his doctors said on Thursday. They said he required surgery but could not afford it.
Ghulam Dastagir Mirza, a teacher at the Government Islamia Middle School, was beaten up by some boys six months ago while he was on his way to a house where he gave tuition to a girl. Mirza had earlier stopped the boys from passing lewd comments about his students. A few days later, the boys stopped him in the street and beat him up, leaving him with several broken ribs and injuries to the spinal chord, shoulders, head and jaw. Some neighbours had taken him to Sheikh Zayed Hospital, where he was told that he would require surgery, which he was unable to afford and went home.
An FIR was registered against Arslan, Rizwan, Zeeshan, Waqas and three othes under Section 337/F5. No one has been arrested so far. Mirza’s family said they were being pressed to withdraw the case. A few days ago his family took him to the hospital after he fainted on duty. They were told that Mirza’s lower body was paralysed.
Mirza’s principal and Rahim Yar Khan Teacher’s Association President Lisan Ali Gujjar has requested the chief minister to send Mirza to a foreign country for treatment.
The SHO of the police station concerned said that they had no evidence against the suspects.
