The bar’s executive committee says the deadline was not feasible.

LAHORE: Rejecting a deadline of December 31 fixed by the National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) for the disposal of all cases pending before subordinate courts, the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has announced a countrywide strike for Thursday (today).

The bar’s executive committee said in a press release issued on Wednesday that the deadline was not feasible and had put the courts under pressure to adopt short cuts which were prejudicial to the basic requirements of justice.

The bar said that the disposal of cases on technical grounds with undue haste was a violation of the fundamental right to due process and a fair trial granted by Article 10A of the Constitution.
