PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) refused the bail application of a man arrested for alleged involvement in terrorist activities.
On November 13, an explosion occurred at the house of a resident of Wadpaga, Haleem Gul. Rescue teams, police and the bomb disposal unit (BDU) rushed to the site, where they found a huge cache of explosives and mortars dumped in the house.
The police then arrested Haleem and his son Umar, who was initially injured in the explosion but later died. Another resident Bilal was also taken into custody.
Chamkani police registered a case against Haleem under sections 3, 4, 5 of the Explosives Act, Section 13 of the Arms Ordinance and section 7 of the Anti-terrorism Act.
Bilal was found innocent and released, while Haleem was sent to jail by a local anti-terrorism court. However, he challenged the verdict at the Peshawar High Court.
During the case hearing, State Counsel Abida Safdar informed Chief Justice (CJ) Dost Muhammad Khan that the charge-sheet has been completed and 61 kilogrammes of explosives were recovered from Haleem’s house. On these grounds, Safdar argued that the court reject the bail plea.
After listening to the state counsel’s arguments, CJ Khan refused Haleem’s request. He further said that the trial court should decide the case within four months.
