SC rejects CNG association request to increase prices

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has rejected the request made by All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) to increase prices, Express News reported on Wednesday.

Hearing a case pertaining to CNG prices, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked that other aspects related to CNG pricing will be evaluated before any such decision is taken.

Khawaja also said that a new price formula devised by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) will be reviewed in the next hearing.

The judge further said the court will follow the law, no matter what happens to the CNG stations.

During the hearing, the apex court asked Ogra to submit details of CNG licenses issued in the last three years and account details of station owners.

The APCNGA counsel told the court that around 3,000 CNG stations have closed down. He further added that it is not court’s duty to determine prices and that the government is responsible for pricing.

APCNGA Chairman Ghias Paracha also commented, saying the association will abide by the court’s decision.
