Spokesperson to President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the summary initiated by the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions stated that the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the approval of Governor had forwarded the proposal for extension of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2012 to the Provincially Administered Tribal Areas.
It said that the extension of the Local Government Act to PATA would help establish local government institutions there.
The Ministry of SAFRON had also requested the Prime Minister to advise the President for providing his approval to the draft notification.
Acting upon the advice of the Prime Minister, the President approved the draft notification.
The notification reads:
"SRO. (1)/2012:- In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (3) of Article 247 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Governor of the Province of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the approval of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is pleased to direct that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act, 2012 (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Act No.VIII of 2012), as in force in the Province of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa immediately before the issuance of this notification, shall apply to the Provincially Administered Tribal Areas of the Province of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with immediate effect."
