DERA ISMAIL KHAN:

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sentenced Ahmad Nawaz Bucha to two life sentences along with a Rs50,000 fine in separate cases of terrorism on Monday.

The accused was brought to court under tight security where Justice Khwaja Wajihuddin heard the case. Bucha was sentenced for attacking the DPO office in DI Khan and for facilitating a suicide bombing on DSP Abdul Ghaffar Khan in the same area. After the hearing, Bucha was escorted back to prison.

He was arrested during a police raid on a house in September and presented in front of the media by DPO Sohail Khalid, according to a Cantonment police official. Bucha was then shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation where he confessed to being a member of the Imran Gandapur group, which is associated with Laskhar-e-Jhangvi and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

On January 12, three suicide bombers attacked the DPO office in the jurisdiction of Cantt police station. A police official along with the three attackers was killed in the attack, which lasted for two hours. TTP claimed responsibility for the incident.

A police official familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune that Bucha was wanted for multiple crimes by the DI Khan police.
