BAHAWALPUR: Inspector General of Police Haji Habibur Rahman on Saturday lauded the Rahim Yar Khan police for reducing the crime rate by 50 per cent in the district. Addressing police officials of the Bahawalpur division in Rahim Yar Khan, he announced prizes of Rs100,000 each for the Bahawalpur regional police officer and the Rahim Yar Khan district police officer, Rs 50,000 each for the Investigations superintendent of police and the Headquarters SP, and Rs10,000 each for the Saddar Circle deputy superintendent of police, the Sadiqabad City station house officer and the A-division SHO. Rahman said Rahim Yar Khan residents had been facing more law and order problems than any other city of the Punjab. He said the Punjab police had wiped out kidnapping-for-ransom cases and the crime rate had been lowered by 50 per cent in the province. DPO Sohail Zafar Chattha said police had ensured foolproof security during Muharram. He said 2,200 police officials had been deployed for security in Rajanpur which has a population of 1.6 million people, and the same number for Rahim Yar Khan’s five million population. Though there were proportionally fewer policemen in RY Khan, they had brought crime down by 50 per cent, he said. Rahman also held an open court at Rahim Yar Khan.
