Speaking to media at the Sukkur airport, Shah said it was condemnable that old issues such as the Kalabagh Dam project were brought up.
Highlighting water scarcity in the country, the chief minister said that the controversial project was a matter of life and death for the people of Sindh.
He further criticised people for only protesting against issues that can be solved through simple amendments in the laws but are staying silent on the Kalabagh issue.
Kalabagh Dam is against national interest
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that the project was against national interest.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Hussain said the Kalabagh Dam project can hurt the country badly.
He also said that three provinces are against the project and the Supreme Court should immediately take notice and nullify the Lahore High Court's (LHC) decision.
Hussain pointed out that the 18th amendment allows provinces to take decision with regards to construction of dams.

I think this is very controversial Issues of Pakistan. i am fail to understand that what is current government doing for this very important issues. Even this government belongs to sindh. (PPP) as by my opinion government should take responsibility and come with a political solution by agreement of all political parities.
@Muhammad Yaqub: you should know that the natural gas is being produced by Sindh and Baluchistan to feed the entire pakistan so if there is over-consumption or loadshadding than GAS should be stopped to Punjab and Islamabad.
Qaim ali shah a better man and a cm, anyday than noora junior. Respect mr CM!
What a country and the lot of politicians. Look at the clown, he is against the 'CONSTRUCTION' of something in the country. The whole country is crying for cheap electicity, for which we have the venue and opportunity to produce, but they have made a political issue out of it. Construction of Kalabagh Dam would minimize the flood effectiveness, thus reduce the chances of getting International Aid, which is the only reason, for which all of them are opposing its construction. They are just after destruction, like destruction of schools, roads, railways, hospitals, factories and killing each other on one pretext or the other. Yes! They are very good in swindling national wealth, drug trafficking, plundering people, even Hajjis. We have world famous Money Swindler, drug trafficker, plunderer of Hajjis, Raja Rental, Chief Thug of 'Green Channel' and confiscators of dollars account, as our top leadership with 80% fake degrees. We really deserve to live in worst than the prevailing conditions in Pakistan. Pakistan Zinda Baad.
First of all Sind should go without electricity when the shortages hit. Why do those provinces suffer which have no objection to building the dam. These politicians only speak the language of money. Offer them hefty sums and they will sell their souls !!
you are old fashioned, sick person, Qaim Ali Shah.
Okay, can I ask a very stupid question here? What are the issues that each province has in the construction of KBD?
@Abdullah: He remains so "tunn", he barely knows if he's alive :D
"Old issues" kalabagh is an issue for him, shameless
@Gujranwala789: Let me make one thing clear to you here, we Saraikis of South Punjab have nothing to do with this Kalabagh dam.It will only benefit Army Generals and Punjabi settlers from central punjab ( Faislabad etc) who have been given land, plundered by native Saraikis.
National cohesion is more important than dam.
Sayeen baba CM sahab aap ja k bhang shang ka glass piyo aur din main taaray dekho aap ka kiya kam ju is mamlay main bat ker rahay ho..
If kal bag dam bults, Sindh desh will be made
@NoKBD: Punjab have announced they won't take any royalty from Federal Government.
For The sake of Pakistan, Stop thinking about provinces. They don't matter on larger scale. What matters is Pakistan and Kalabagh Dam is extreme necessity for Pakistan
As a punjabi from Gujranwala, I totally agree with sindhi and pakhtun brothers that Kala bagh dam will harm the national unity badly. We punjabis of central punjab have nothing to do with kala bagh dam, the only area that will benefit from kalabagh dam is south punjab which is inhabited by saraikis, and the only people that are propagating for the construction of kala bagh dam are those who are puppets of army generals because most of the generals get barren land in south punjab after their retirement so they want to use the water of indus river to irrigate their allocated lands, the water that would otherwise irrigate the lands of sindh province.
@HU: The problem with the dam is that it will be built in Pakhtunkhwa by displacing hundreds of thousands of people. Land of 4 districts in Pakhtunkhwa will become useless. But the power the power plant will be built in Punjab and as per constitution of Pakistan, Punjab will get all the royalty. Isn't it intelligent thinking? :p
Our sind got flooded twice in three year. The world over acient people used to build dam to control the flow of water . It look like he sindi and Kp leader are trying to prove wrong that all the combined intellectual capacity of the world is wrong when they build dam.
@ caramelized_onion.......on a lighter note.. .after reading your comments I think your name should be caramelized opinion..:)
Why do these so-called Sindhi and Pakhtun leaders lie to their people? Because people are dumb illiterate sheeps, and they know it!
Unethical and unconstitutional intervention of the courts in the matters which are totally the jurisdiction of the Parliament and the provincial assemblies is wreaking havoc in the system. What these judges want? To destroy Pakistan! Just for the sake of keeping themselves in the limelight they are giving observations and verdicts which are creating hatred and acrimony in between the people of Pakistan. If no check is going to be imposed on these populist and fame-seeking judges Pakistan will have to see further deterioration.
Can someone please explain to me why there is opposition to this dam? I've never heard a genuine reason, just mere inter-provincial bickering!
Now Sind will have more protests; they are not even done with local government system yet.SOme times, i feel like we are doing same Sindhis to what the world world is doing to Pakistanis.Whatever and whereever there is an issue in the world, Pakistanis burn themselves.
between this, i donot know why Punjabi judges are so hateful towards PPP led government? Why every decision aginst "federation" is taken from LHC? really they donot understand how Pakistani society works while living in Lahore.I am sure they have never been to any other province and donot know about other ethnic groups sensitivites regading various national issues.Surely they are biased and are harming national cohesion.
Does anyone know what are the problems with the Dam?
Ok Mr CM but it wasn't Kala Bagh dam which caused so much flooding in Sindh, in fact Kala Bagh will help in curbing these floods + water storage + cheap electricity !!!! Kala Bagh will take 4-5 years as oppose to 10 years of construction of Basha Dam BUT politicians will play politics at the cost of the "mango man" we are so unfortunate to have such politicians!!!
Thumb up Mr Chief Minister
Wait for another flood. These peopel are only Pakistan's enemies and people of Pakistan. They want people to die with hunger, flood and drought. Alas, these JUHLA's have become politicinas in Pakistan Allhah help us and help Pakistani people.
" Hussain said the Kalabagh Dam project can hurt the country badly." what is happening now? are we cheering?
Great - keep feeding the people rhetoric
Water scarcity ? Don't think CM know any thing about the floods in his province !!
And I'm sure, following the same pretext of 'dying' for the province, people lost their lives when flood waters were diverted to their homes away from the lands of rich feudals in interior sindh, such is these politicians' love of sindh and it's people.
Forget power shortage in the country, there's an election coming and you'd be a fool not to play on politics of ethnicity. The Kalabagh Dam presents a perfect opportunity to do so for politicians and their apologists in the media alike.
Water scarcity? What about the floods then?
