LANDI KOTAL/ PESHAWAR: Five security officials were injured when two improvised explosive devices (IED) went off near their vehicle on the Pak-Afghan Highway in Landi Kotal on Friday.

Amjad Shinwari, a senior khasadar official, said that the explosion occurred around 9am when Abbas Ali Shinwari and four other officials were on a regular patrol of the highway.

No one was injured in the first explosion. The second IED exploded when a levies force vehicle was rushing towards the site of the first explosion, injuring four officials. The Abdullah Azzam Brigade spokesperson, Abu Zarar, claimed responsibility for the attacks. He spoke to from an undisclosed location.

Following the explosions, the area was cordoned off and the injured were taken to the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Landi Kotal, Amjad said. Subsequently, a search operation was launched but no arrests were made at the time of filing this report. The injured officials are in stable condition.

Two policemen injured

Two policemen sustained minor injuries when a bomb went off on Inqilab Road in the jurisdiction of Badhaber police station on Friday.

The bomb was planted by a roadside in a pile of garbage and exploded via remote control when a police mobile on patrol passed by. The vehicle was slightly damaged while Arshad, a police official, was injured. Around three kilogrammes of explosives were used in the device.
