BAHAWALPUR:

Bahawalpur Division Commissioner Muhammad Khan Khichi on Friday directed Education Department officials to conduct a door-to-door survey to gauge child enrollment in schools.

Khichi was addressing a meeting in his office with Health Department and Education Department officials. Khichi said the chief minister had provided a road map for improving school performance.

He said local officials needed to design a system to raise the standard of schools. He said Education Department officials should check schools regularly.

He said student attendance and ensuring cleanliness were priorities.

He said all schools must be provided a basic set of facilities.

He said Education Department officials should work honestly to improve the country’s future.

He also directed Health Department officials to improve the vaccination system to protect people from the diseases.

He said polio and other vaccination teams should be monitored strictly.

In another meeting, Commissioner Khichi directed the district administration to suggest possible sites for the Bahawalpur Timber Market.

Khichi said the timber market should be kept outside the city limits.

The Cholistan Development Association (CDA) managing director told the meeting that any non-allotted land in the Cholistan area could be earmarked for the market. He said he would send suggestions to the Board of Revenue.

Khichi ordered staff to submit a report of possible locations to him.

Abu Dhabi Cholistan Welfare Trust officials also met at the commissioner’s office.

Khichi asked the officials to present suggestions for the improvement and welfare of Cholistan in the next meeting.

He said the handicrafts woven by Cholistani women were of very good quality, but they received very little profit. He said good students from the Cholistan area should be sent to the best higher-education institutions.
