SPI rises by 17%

SPI for the week ended on September 2 for the combined income group recorded an increase of 17.03 per cent.

ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on September 2 for the combined income group recorded an increase of 17.03 per cent as compared to the corresponding week of last year.

The SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs3,000 registered an increase of 0.62 per cent over the previous week. The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 275.25 points as against 273.56 points registered in the previous week, according to provisional figures of the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

The weekly SPI covers 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups. The SPI for the combined group registered an increase of 0.57 per cent, going up from 262.91 points in the previous week to 264.40 points in the week under review.

As compared to last week, the SPI for income groups ranging from Rs3,001-5,000, Rs5,001-12,000 and above Rs12,000 increased by 0.61 per cent, 0.58 per cent and 0.47 per cent respectively.

During the week under review, average prices of seven items registered a decrease, while prices of 24 items showed an increase with 22 items’ prices remaining unchanged.
