Agri-sector: Govt approves mega-irrigation project

The project will irrigate at least 900,000 acres, benefitting a large number of farmers in the region.

The government had approved a project worth Rs11 billion to concrete Muzaffargarh’s canal banks and initially released a grant of Rs8.5 billion, said senior politician Malik Ghulam Muhamad Noor Rabbani Khar while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.


The project will irrigate at least 900,000 acres, benefitting a large number of farmers in the region.

He said that due to foreign minister’s continuous efforts the project came to the limelight, which was being delayed since 1985, adding that the president took personal interest to initiate the project.

The tender for the project will be advertised in newspapers and national and international firms will be able to submit their bids till December 3 and the tender will be opened on December 18.
