Defective goods: Notice issued to fridge seller

Petitioner says he was sold a factory rejected item.

A consumer court issued notice, on Wednesday, to the proprietor of Singer Pakistan Limited for January 3 in a suit involving the sale of a defective refrigerator.


The petitioner is seeking Rs58,500 in damages. Petitioner Abdul Waheed said that on April 15,2011 he purchased a refrigerator for Rs21,000 from the respondent but it did not work well. He said the refrigerator got overheated and consumed more power and did not provide enough cooling. He said the respondent sold him a factory rejected refrigerator, passing it off as brand new. He said he was not given a receipt and neither was a warranty card provided to him. The petitioner said he asked the respondent to exchange the item but the respondent refused. The respondent did not respond to calls regarding this story.
