CJP’s flowers for Hamid Mir irk Kaira

Kaira, however, condemns attempted attack on Mir, saying government stood behind him.

LAHORE: Information Qamar Zaman Kaira has taken exception to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry presenting a bouquet to senior news anchor Hamid Mir, saying the top judge should not have done so, especially when Mir was a petitioner in a case involving the information ministry.

However, the minister condemned the attempted attack on Mir, saying “the government stood behind him.”

Talking to journalists at a lunch meeting, he said the government will devise ways to provide security to journalists, as it salutes media men who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Senior journalist and anchor Hamid Mir escaped an assassination bid on Monday when police defused a bomb planted under his car in Islamabad.
