However, the minister condemned the attempted attack on Mir, saying “the government stood behind him.”
Talking to journalists at a lunch meeting, he said the government will devise ways to provide security to journalists, as it salutes media men who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Senior journalist and anchor Hamid Mir escaped an assassination bid on Monday when police defused a bomb planted under his car in Islamabad.

@nadeem: I am not a Jiyaala but thinking impartially you will also realize this. Why he took notice of such incidents there should be a criteria on basis of which SC will get involved.Justice should be served across the board without favoritism towards region , sect and community. Is shia blood in this country too cheap. http://tribune.com.pk/story/174756/kharotabad-incident-sc-asks-for-report-on-chechens-killing/ http://tribune.com.pk/story/343410/sc-takes-suo-motu-notice-of-waheeda-shah-slapping-incident/ http://tribune.com.pk/story/412645/sc-orders-bakers-free-to-set-samosa-prices/ http://tribune.com.pk/story/384407/court-order-payout-ordered-for-families-of-those-slain-in-lal-masjid/ Hope reply will serve the intended purpose.
According to judges code of conduct the Judges should even avoid reading news unnecessarily to avoid any bias. But here we have a Chief Justice sending out bouquets to journalists.
The present crew on judicial benches need tuition on avoidance of 1) public controversy, 2) interference in public policy and on unbiased application of law with indifference to outcome. Our police unlawfully takes on the judicial role of deciding guilt and meting out punishment while judges appear to misjudge their own roles and start acting like an applause hungry rather imperial Santa Claus.
The issue is not, as some contributors seem to think, about using or not using public funds to send his good wishes. As a judge the CJP has to maintain strict and complete impartiality between all litigants and accused. Does the CJ send bouquets to all those who survive assassination attempts? If not, that makes Hamid Mir special for him. If so, how can the CJ continue to sit on a bench hearing Hamid Mir's petition, as kaira has correctly pointed out. Mr. CJ your slip is showing, as they say.
@all,, Would Kaira have had taken exception to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry presenting a bouquet to Hamid Mir If Mir had not been a petitioner in a case involving the information ministry....????
CJP playing politics for a long time. What on the face of earth him and black coats have given anything to common pakistani??? Nothing.
Biased Top Judge, President promoting nepotism, Corrupt Army, Corrupt & Incompetent PM, Government & Bureaucracy, Visionless, Self Centered, Ethically & Morally Corrupt Politicians, Intolerant, Illiterate Religious Clergy & a Selfish Civilian population, This is Pakistan 2013 for you!!!!
Kaira is right!!! No matter how much we detest the PPP, but his arguments are justified and valid in this case. CJP is clearly not displaying his '' forged'' and ''high'' standards of the world class judicial code of conduct, and should be checked by ''an authority higher than him''. It is not his forte and conduct to pass on as a political proposer. As the judge of the highest court of the country, his is not the authority to gain political and social tutelage on prospects besides his job.
Let this be very clear to you Mr Chaudry.
CJP is just a show man now!!! indeed unfortunate for Pakistan.
@Rsk: Some thing is wrong better go to a doctor he will check your balance it is out,You can't differentiate between judge and his politics.
iftikhar chaudhary is a biased CJP in the history of SC of Pakistan
Agree.
enough with CJPs shenanigans!
Oh cry me a river seriously Information minister sahib you have nothing else to worry about?
One eyed justice is political justice having political objectives thus it is disgrace to call such judges as part of judiciary. Nation is facing another type of dictatorship. Hamid Mir seems to have made an excellent attemp to boost his declining credibility by acting as victim. The startaegy will work well with Pakistani masses and he knows that perfectly well.
CJP should have taken out self promoting ads using public funds like any honest ministers do, instead of sending bouquet.
@USMAN786: It is a good question and must be answered honestly. The "free judicary" and its even freer Chief Justice may decide to act as they wish even if it appears in conflict with the principles of a neutral and non political and non partisan judiciary, however they can not use the tax payers money to promote themselves and their public relations campaigns, so please pay the money back to state treasury, thank you.
@Haris Farooq Wattoo: Our CJ is not neutral thats for sure what you expect from him he always want to remain in lime light. If any one has reservation do reply i will defend my view.
Iftikhar chaudhary should behave like a CJP.
Kaira sahib you are right about CJP. But if he can't figure this out himself then how do you propose helping him to show more respect in his job. Government should think seriously before appointing new judges.
What is wrong if CJP offered a Bouquet ?. He has offered it in appreciation of his courage as a journalist and not for petitioning against information ministry.
Did the CJP used official funds for sending flowers?
I agree with what Kaira said. Our judges should refrain from becoming a political figure and fond of media attention.
It's payback time ! A good "Jan-neesar" that Mir is the CJ must acknowledge the mutual loyalty, but hopefully the Chief Justice paid for this bouquet of flowers he sent to his janneesar and not charged us for it.
Now this time Mr. Kaira is right
Why CJP Why?
