CM compares Tando Allahyar with Bara market

KARACHI: The trade of illegal weapons has become so widespread that Tando Allahyar has become Bara, a tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that is infamous for its arms trade, said the chief minister.

At a meeting in CM House on Tuesday, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said that there are so many weapons in the province that he has directed the law enforcement agencies to start a crackdown against arms suppliers. A committee - comprising the home department’s additional chief secretary, Sindh advocate general, the prosecutor general and the law secretary - will be formed to consult with the federal law ministry and suggest amendments that can be moved to the Sindh Assembly.

According to the CM House spokesperson, the police have started verifying arms licenses and will begin to computerise the data. More than 400,000 arms licenses have been issued in the province while Rs75 million have been paid to the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to install computerised systems in the home department and at all divisional and district headquarters.

The owner of arms license will go to their nearest Nadra office and fill up necessary forms that will be verified by the respective SP office. Apart from Karachi, such machines have been installed at Hyderabad and Larkana.

Police to hire 200 law graduates

The Sindh Police will hire 200 people, who have degrees in law, to be trained in investigations and processing of legal requirements at the department.
