KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q) Sindh chief Ghous Bux Mahar on Tuesday told a press conference at his residence that he has resigned from the post and would continue working as a member of the party.

Mahar was removed from the post of federal minister a few days ago, though he maintains that he had resigned. PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussein has denied that he has received any resignation.

Mahar said he had expressed reservations with his party leadership and the Pakistan Peoples’ Party leaders over the new local government ordinance, but they did not listen to him. “There is no need to retain a senior position in a party where the leadership is not willing to listen to the problems of our voters,” he said adding that he tried to convince Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain that PPP was not consulting them on sensitive issue of local government system, but the Chaudhry brothers always avoided speaking on the issue.

“I have resigned because my voters have been opposing the LG system and they will hold me accountable for supporting the unpopular system,” he said.

He said that PPP has mounted pressure on other leaders of PML-Q including the Shirazi brothers of Thatta to join the ruling party, but he would try to convince Shirazi brothers to change their decision.

Mahar said that he has not yet decided to join any party and will decide later.
