Technology: GSM lab set up at NUST

ISLAMABAD:

A GSM laboratory and training centre at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) will help link academia and the industry.

The laboratory, established by China Mobile and Huawei, will provide students hands-on experience of operating high-tech GSM equipment, and can be used as a platform for Research and Development for Value Added Services.

At the inaugural ceremony here on Tuesday, Chinese Ambassador Liu Jian said the lab not only represents the promotion of technological education but also symbolises China’s commitment to Pakistan.

NUST Rector Ashgar said the lab will serve as a platform for the development of software and help familiarise students with the security and network performance management of telecom infrastructure.

But GSM is now an old technology. World is moving towards 3G and now 4G so did NUST spend on a 2G system like GSM?
