Pakistan landed between Kazakhstan (rank 74) and Angola (rank 76), while Bangladesh landed two slots below Pakistan on rank 77. Afghanistan failed to make it to the list.
Switzerland landed on the first place on the index, followed by Australia and Norway. The United States of America was on 16th place, with Germany sharing the same slot. India and Morocco were on 66, while the worst place to be born in the next year was termed Nigeria.
The index was compiled by taking 11 statistically significant indicators into account, including crime, trust in public institutions and health of family life, and some fixed factors such as geography. Some factors which change very slowly over time, such as demography, social and cultural characteristics, were also measured.
The EIU’s economic forecasts for 2030 were also used, which is roughly when children born in 2013 will reach adulthood.

The people who made this list them selve have no idea about what these countries are like. The list is just based on their perception which is based on what they see on media and some economic indicators etc. But reality is totally different. i believe Pakistan is the best country to be born in.....
Pakistan is the best for Pakistanis....we are a most underutilized / mismanaged country - otherwise we have the potential to be number 1
Change the state of your thinking, control population growth, abolish corruption and control crime, ensure opportunities are give to the majority who want to strive hard and produce, don't find and easier way out to your solutions.....ensure health care and education takes top priority and ensure woman are given opportunities and well as equality and have a say ,their opinions are also heard develop nations finds a niche in every citizen ...i am sure you can make it to the top 20,some day....controlling population is the key factor and seeing to your citizens first....coming from someone is from the first 10 countries listed.
A recent study of 22 nations done by Prof Miles Corak for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) found that Pakistan offers greater upward income mobility than the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, China and 5 other countries.
The study's findings were presented by the author in testimony to the US Senate Finance Committee on July 6, 2012.

Absolutly pathetic opinion @indian:
@sabi: should have done something for the later generations uncle ji.Pakistans cancer mostly comes from the 40-60 age group right now and they had the best conditions growing up(60s-80s) economically.
to all those who degrade mullahs....SAUDI ARABIA is on 38th position. much better than Pakistan
Well as the Gov. Will Change and the number will drop. We were never as bad as we are now it's all started after 2007. (Lal Masjid Crisis)
@baba: shoot, what do I do now :P
Apparently we (Hindus) have the biggest population and our couples are busy in production of dozens - looks like we are more Molana logic than Muslims. Why Muslims accused of population dont know when India-China are leading the production
Keep humping like rabbits! Soon we will take over the world!!!!
Ok... next time, I'm gonna born in Switzerland
It doesn't make sense. No one knew what lies in future. only the Almighty Allah knows it so this is waste of time and I am amazed how people are reacting to this.
This is the top 80 list. Many countries were not able to make in it. So how come we should read Pakistan in the bottom 5??? Typical Express Tribune way. Not a word pro-Pakistan in this paper's history.
@Salman You watch NDTV till it gives you a migraine? Why?
The EIU’s economic forecasts for 2030 were also used, which is roughly when children born in 2013 will reach adulthood. lolololololololz
According to you what about 31 December 2012....
@baba: well said hahahaha
I was born in India in 1945 and migrated to Pakistan when I was 12 years old. Lived in Karachi when it was called "The City Of Lights". Again migrated to U.A.E for joining a Banking job in 1974 when I was about 31 years old. Continue lived there for about 36 years (without permanent residency) which Ranked 17. And now I am living in U.S.A since 20 months as a permanent resident (which ranked 16)....Thank God, I am living in "The Land of Opportunity" and not in my own country which ranked 75.
Alhamdulillah! We are nationals of a great country. I have been through almost the whole world and there are only a few countries like ours on the face of this Earth. It's we who did not prove equal to the task. We should take this grading as making promises to ourselves to do every bit for this beautiful country and its people. I am sure that time is not that far away as these kind of suryeys and statistics might have been predicting. So be hopeful and never relax the vigilance. Thanks and God bless us.
http://www.fragilestates.org/2012/02/17/is-pakistan-an-emerging-market/ Is Pakistan an Emerging Market?
Ranking on earth doesn't matter. It is after all a ranking by humans. What really matters is the ranking at the top and we are almost at the top closely following Hamas with their maximum number of martyrs in heaven.
Most interesting for Pakistan is that apart from three oil countries (explored and exploited by others) not ONE single Muslim country is in the top 50. Secular Turkey with a majority of Muslims can be proud at rank 51. This must be a Western anti-Muslim conspiracy. :-) By the way these three oil countries will disappear from this list in the next 25 years anyhow as their oil will be likely depleted. There are lessons here, whether anybody cares to learn is not my business.
Pakistan is extremely rewarding if you're rich.
@sabi: "I’m lucky to born at a time Pakistan was among best places to born in." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sir that must have been pre partition when there was no Pakistan.
Ukraine has a lower gini coefficient and a much higher HDI index than Pakistan and Bangladesh, however, it is still ranked below both of these countries. This ranking is a bad joke!
@sensible: " the future is bright"- buy sun glasses.
As per a different survey, we are among the top happiest people. (16th out of 151 countries)
@sabi: Pakistan was never a best place to be born in. Our mullahs made it sure that our people will be always looked by suspicions by world.
Courtesy: PPP government & it's coalition partners looting the country gifted through NRO from a runaway dictator !
this ranking is crap. The people who compile tis have no clue about other countries, they just make assumption based on false media reports. I amd proud to be born in Pak. The place great peot Allama Iqbal, the place where Faiz Ahemed Faiz breath his last, the place where lagendary sportsmen Imran Khan, Maindad, Inzamam, jahangir khan lives, the country which is atomic power, one of best army in the world! I know Pak is facing problems right now but i am sure the future of Pak is bright Inshallah!
Ah cant say much! The parliamentarians are on a holiday to Azerbaijan to discuss Kashmir and nagoro-Karabakh. The country is in pieces and they would rather go to Baku and discuss something none at all relevant to the future of the babies in 2013! They cant talk about peace in the country. And can we just leave Kashmir alone!
http://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/2012/11/26/news/national/pakistani-parliamentarians-to-discuss-nagorno-karabakh-kashmir-conflicts-in-baku/
Oh and all the Indians who come on ET to go on a tangent of Pakistan bashing. Well, yes we understand that India is the ultimate utopian state! Happy? Now go watch some Zoom TV or NDTV (where they repeat the news backwards and forward until you start getting a migraine) and leave us alone with our issues to sort out :)
The President, Prime Minister, ministers big and small, MNA's. MPA's, Senators, all Government officers Grade 20 and up including the armed forces and judiciary, all sugar mill owners and feudal landlords, most politicians and almost all half-Pakistanis, think this is rubbish. While the other 99 % really have no say.
Ridiculous. Sierra Leone, Somalia aren't even mentioned
Pak is the Gr8 Country rich in natural and economic resources. From US election debate to israel's scariness, Pak remains always in their mind to think about ....
Well, at least we're better than Bangladesh.......
BUT..BUt..But...but..what happened to that other report that said pakistan was one of the top 10 happiest nation? We should double the production of children (only growth industry we have), at least they will be happy!
@indian: heh. I am an Indian too.
I don't think a wikipedia site changes the fact. The difference between Pakistan and India is in how cohesive the nation is, and the national identity being more than that of a religion.
But, that doesn't mean India is a good place to be born in.
For all the 'mera bharat mahan' we can't change the fact that about 50% of our compatriots defecate in the open (yes women included), over 50% are desperately poor and we still haven't irradicated hunger. Even in a progressive state like gujrat we have 44% child malnutrition. We can't ensure universal education or healthcare for our citizens.
By those tokens we are in same boat as Pakistan. There is no shame in stating the truth.
Could be born in Pakistan next year, abide by the law, live a humble life, stay low, study, go to a great business school, make your first million at 29, round about then you've also got another passport in another country because your organization sponsored you, could be satisfied that you're outta there now even though the chances keep gettin' slim. But you're a winner.
Though..
Could be born in Hackney next year innit.. Life gon' be tough.
Checkout there is Bangladesh at the bottom = its just because we dont report properly put us down in all places. Our public sector institution has to be more documented, transparent and accessible in coming days so that we come out of such dilemma.
who's care about pakistan.
Time shall tell which places become best and which worst.
Please correct... 75 out of 80 is not bottom 5 ... its sixth from bottom if thats any consolation
@Z: yupp citing wikipedia....................there are tonnes of other sites loaded with the same rankings ..go search for them...i am outta here now.........bye!! :D
May be statistically its right, but who know what happens ahead,
This is a concern but not end of world , if Pakistanis get a leader who has a clear vision and is honest, all will change. Its a matter of self belief and we have seen great days in Pakistan, and Insha Allah good times will come..
@indian: Really? Citing Wikipedia?
yes its bad, but it is our country, and we are proud of it.
@karma: LOL............same boat??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Failed_state what say now???????
it's not your fault if you are born poor, but, it's your fault if you die poor.
We Have a place where if people banned from entry, could never ever born === on your face EIU
i really think bangladesh should be placed above pakistan..................
Thats why we should produce more Mullahs - so whatever the world says our mullahs will take is into the hereafter kicking and screaming if need be - but they will get us there quicker than the rest of the world - so there!
That's a glass half empty point of view.
India at 66 and Pakistan at 77? In 1988, India was in top 30 places to be born, today it has come down to 66!!
Pakistan isn't much worse off than India as per this study. Well we are all in the same boat I guess!!
According to media Pakistan has been failed state for six decades. They are starting to sound like old record.
@yo: Media can make good look bad and bad look good. That is why.
That is real progress PPP jiyalas! The PPP has been on the saddle for almost five years but are facing the wrong direction. Wonder what fatwa the mullahs will bellow at the top of their voices. Salams
It's a Zionist-Hindu conspiracy .We will breed 5-6 children per couple and cover the world surface with green.
BIlawal Bhutto was born in Pakistan! Take that you survey people!
Bad show by India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Shame on us.
Zinda hey Bhutto zinda hey!
This is yet another conspiracy by RAW-Mossad-CIA to defame Pakistan! First they cause Pakistan's problems then they publicize in foreign media!
Oh come on !! Pak isn't that bad....i don't buy this crap....
Let me SMS to new coming kids...Can Express Tribune share the idea that how they can change their way to born in other country...
... and 2012 was a golden generation for Pakistani babies? Pakistan could be the wrost place in the world but that wont stop couples from having 5 to 6 children. After all, what are women for? ;)
More children = more muslims! (Molana logic)
I'm lucky to born at a time Pakistan was among best places to born in.
I have no clue how Syria is ranked above Pakistan
So all those planning to born next year read this :p or all the couples read this before extending their family :)
